The Dark Knight opening July 18
The Dark Knight is the Sequal to the phenominal re-invention of the Batman movie franchise, but with one BIG difference, The Joker. Batman Begins seemingly went with lesser known villains in order to re-establish the series before tackling the major villains of the series, and im my opinion, this was a very wise decision. Batman Begins was a phenominal movie throughout, very well written, directed, and acted all the way through. They were able to really focus on the Bruce Wayne becoming Batman story and then give you a nice thrill ride to end the movie.
The Dark Knight, looks to pick up where “Begins” left off. At the end of the movie Seargent Gordon meets with Batman and gives him the new criminal’s trademark, a playing card, that of the Joker, clearly setting up the Joker as the villain in the new movie. I’m sure you have heard by now The Joker is played by the very talented, and sadly recently deceased, Heath Ledger. From the clips circling the internet thus far, he sure looks to have really done an amazing job at making the Joker a very dark and disturbed villain indeed. Check out the trailer below.
I was always a fan of the original Batman movie, where Bruce Wayne was played by Michael Keaton, but even then I thought it could be better. Going into Batman Returns I had high hopes for improvement and was let down horrible midway through, I mean come on, Penguins with rockets on their back? Seriously, why not have sharks with laser beams? It was just stupid. Anyway, they got unbelievably horribly worse after that, to the point where it was just totally unwatchable. But, the series was revived with the monsterous success of other comicbook movies, namely, Spider-Man. That movie really opened the door for all the comicbook movies coming down the pipes now, and really set the groundwork for how to make a great comicbook movie, most important of all, base it in reality. Batman Begins did this, and I look for them to build on it here, and I would expect nothing less from director Chistopher Nolan, the phenominal director who not only has Batman Begins on his list of credits, but other terrific films such as Insomnia, Memento and The Prestige.
Early buzz around the net has some people calling The Dark Knight “A Masterpiece.” I for one can’t wait, definately one of my most anticipated movies of the year, and we’re now only a few weeks away.

I want to see Hellboy 2 this weekend.
