TEN THINGS: Episode II: Ten Reasons Why You Should Subscribe to Sirius Satellite Radio.

Welcome back to the second installment of TEN THINGS, my almost brand new, and only weekly series. This week, Ten Things is Ten reasons why you should be Subscribing to Sirius Satellite Radio. I’ve been a subscriber since late 2005, and before that had XM briefly, and I gotta tell you, I almost can’t get through a day without it, and I’m going to give you 10 reasons why you shouldn’t be able to either. All that said, lets get to it!

#1 100% Commercial Free Music

I lost count just how many music channels are on the service now, but I think its somewhere around 60 or 70, 100% Commercial Free. There are channels here for everyone, everything from doo-wop music from the 50’s to the Heaviest Metal you never wanted to here. There are channels for every decade, and generally several different channels within each sub-genre of each category. For instance, if you like Rock, you have Octane 20, which is your standard current Rock music, but then you also have Alt Nation, and geez, I was gonna list out all the other rock channels, but there is at least a dozen more. We’re talking everything old rock, to punk, to metal, and everything in between.

#2 Howard Stern UNCENSORED

The single biggest reason I purchased Sirius, and I haven’t been disappointed yet. The show generally runs live Monday thru Thursday from 6am ET to 10am ET with a 1 hour wrap up show after. But if you don’t want to get up that early, there is a west coast feed on Howard 101 that starts at 9am ET. Still too early? The show runs on a loop on Howard 100 from the time the show starts, until the next day when the new show starts. Channel 101 is the channel where the air other Howard Produced programming and also other radio Personalities such as Bubba the Love Sponge, and Scott Ferrel, plus a variety of “Howard” themed programming mixed in.

#3 The Bubba the Love Sponge Show

If I asked you who had the biggest fine in radio history from the FCC for indecent material, what would you say? Probably Howard Stern right? Wrong! Its Bubba the love sponge, and I believe it was something like a $750,000 fine which in turn got him fired from clear channel and thrown off the radio. That is of course until Howard and Sirius gave him the gig on Satellite. The show is just outright Hilarious, from all the hillbilly hi jinx, to a language all their own, to one of the funniest personalities in radio history, Ned Mandingo. A must listen for anyone with a sense of humor thats not easily offended. For fans of the show, hell yeah I’m markin out!

#4 Bargain price of $12.95/Mo

Are you kidding? I bought a 12 Pack of LandShark Bottles today and it was even $12.95. What can you buy for 13 bucks anymore these days? Hell its less than 4 gallons of gas, and in some places, less than 3. There’s more content than you can shake a stick at, and you just can’t beat that price….well I did, but I got in early with the “Lifetime” subscription, but thats no longer available.

#5 NFL, NBA, NCAA and Nascar

Unless your just a Major League Baseball fan and don’t like other sports, you are going to find your sports fix here for times when you can’t be around a tv but have a radio available. Personally I do miss MLB, but hey, that merger is going to happen any day right? Then, you’d get MLB too, but for now, you still won’t. But again, there are so many sports broadcasts on Sirius you won’t ever skip a beat. Of course you have your ESPN Radio present here as well.

#6 Dock and Play Radios

Dock and Play radios are a thing of beauty. Since each subscription is attached to one radio, it would suck having to pay 3 different subscriptions just to listen to Sirius at home, in the car, and at work right? Well the simple solution is get a dock and play, and usually they come with a car kit. Next, get yourself two homedocks, one for work, and one from home, and you can simply take your radio and dock it at each different station to listen at as many different places as you have docks.

#7 Uncensored Material

Sometimes its just funny to listen to comedy channels, and its a million times better on Satellite because on a lot of channels they run censor free. Its still funny to see people react on the Howard Stern show the first time they come at the Sirius studio and hear the word “Fuck” or “Cunt” or whatever else. You gotta love it.

#8 Radio Costs are coming down

You can get a new dock and play radio for as low as $50, and a nice color screened one for not much more. I have a sportster 5 and love it. I like the way it looks, its nice and sleek, and has a decent screen for the price of $129.99. Of course you can go upscale too and pick up the Stilletto which will take portability to a new level as you can literally walk around with it like an old fashioned radio because of the built in antenna.

#9 PDT

I don’t remember what it stands for, but its the display on the radio. If you are listening to music, it tells you the artist and song title, or if your listening to a talk show, its says the name of the show as well as a brief description as to whats going on right now on the show. No more wondering what the heck it was you were just listening to.

#10 Martha Stewart Channel!

Okay okay, I put that one in there for fun, but hey, Martha’s daughter has a show, and she’s damn fine, so go with me on this one.

So there you have it, 10 damn good reasons why you should be subscribing to Sirius Satellite Radio.

  1. You worried me at first with the Martha Stewart channel. How do you have Martha & Howard in the same post and like them both? But you’re trying to appeal to a different audience I think. :)
