Stuck at home this Memorial Day? Got nothing better to do than sit around the house and watch TV? Well, if that is the case, let me make a recommendation! Starting at 9am EST on Discovery Channel, and Discovery HD (If you want the best viewing experience!), the Discovery channel will be running a Marathon of the hit show “Deadliest Catch.”

If you haven’t seen the show before, I’ll briefly give you a description of what it is about. The show chronicles workers in the most dangerous field on the planet, Alaskan Crab Fishing. The show will follow several different boats per season, and you get to see all the goings on throughout the hunt. When they say its the most dangerous profession on the planet, they aren’t kidding. During yesterdays marathon, I found myself glued to the TV, and during one of the crab seasons, an entire boat went down, and 5 of 6 crew members died. Very sad indeed, and to add to the sadness another man on a different boat went overboard and was never found.

These guys truly due risk it all to get those big paydays. Fast money lives up to its title, as deckhands can receive payments anywhere from 5,000 to 30,000+ for 5 days work. But that fast money does come at a heavy price, obviously the injuries and loss of life number one. Below that, even though it may only be a five day season, these guys find themselves working the majority of that time with not much more than a few hours sleep here or there, and much the same with breaks to get food. It really is astonishing how little rest these guys get as they sacrifice going for the big paydays.

The show is interesting on many multiple levels, and if you have nothing else to do this Memorial Day, I highly recommend checking out Deadliest Catch Marathon on the Discovery Channel, starting at 9am EST.
