Its Official: Welcome to the NBA, Oklahoma City Thunder

The Oklahoma City NBA Franchise made it official earlier today at the teams official unveiling in Oklahoma City. The teams name, and quite possibly the worst kept secret on the planet the past month, is The Oklahoma City Thunder. The logo, which also wasn’t a very well kept secret, has been very negatively recieved from the leaked photo which surfaced this weekend. I as well fell victim to hating it. But that picture didn’t fully do the logo justice. The logo itself is actually decent once you see it in the proper context, which you can see in the unveiling photos of this post. I‘m going to dive a bit more into what I like about the logo, and what I don’t, so keep reading.

The Negatives: Gotta get these out of the way, so I can finish out the post on a positive note. The logo has ZERO to do with the nickname chosen. The only connection to “Thunder” in the logo is the word itself. The other negatives are its seems a little too retro for my liking, and in general, I really don’t like having a freakin’ basketball in my logo, but maybe thats just me.

The Positives: The Colors are awesome, for me. Hey, I’m a Broncos/Mets fan, it just doesn’t get better than blue and orange for me. Although it looks like the Primary color is Oklahoma “state flag” blue, which is awesome, and allows for some great uniform options, which Clay Bennett says are “Absolutely Stunning” but apparently won’t be show until training camp. The secondary colors are Orange and Red, likely an omage to both the Sooners and Cowboys, and the final color is a sharp yellow gold. The Blue/Gold combo has the potential to yeild just beautiful home, road, and alternate jerseys.

Oh well, enough blabbering. Here’s a few more pics:
