Don’t Do Drugs! Especially not someone else’s prescription drugs!

So, you ever been sick and had a friend or relative give you prescription anti-biotic they had lying around left over from a recent illness they had? Well, last week in the midst of my sickness, my mother offered me a few pills that she had left over from an illness she had similar to mine, these were Amoxicillin tablets. Sounds harmless enough right? Well, please read inside and wake up to just how stupid of an idea this turned out to be.

So the first few days, everything was great, the illness was going away and I was feeling better, and I finally stopped taking the Amoxicillin on Thursday (started Sunday). Friday, turned out to be a very bad day. It started as usual with me stumbling out of bed about a quarter to 5am, and stumbled in to the shower, no light no nothing, hey sometimes I am too tired to bother with the light. Of course I didn’t even realize I was scratching the whole time on my way to the shower, and once in the hot shower couldn’t believe how unbelievable good it felt on my body, and the whole time I’m in there scratching my stomach, chest, neck and back like crazy.

It wasn’t until I got to work and realized I was still red all over my arms, and it looked like a raised rash, or basically hives covering my arms, and soon realized covering my entire torso. From the waist up, I was COMPLETELY and totally covered in hives which showed up because I am allergic to Amoxicillin. It was aweful, and its one of the worst things a person can go through, just knowing your body is covered like that, and the itching is uncontrollable and intolerable. It was aweful, worse than being sick the weekend before by far. So I stopped and got some Benadryl and Hydrocortizone to help stop the itching and talked myself into waiting another day and seeing if it got better. It did not, and for the first time in 10+ years, I felt like I needed to see a doctor, so I went to the ER, where they basically didn’t do much but gave me a prescription that was supposed to help, which it seems to be so far.

So anyway, please, don’t take prescription drugs that aren’t meant for you, because I assure you, you don’t want this to happen to you. It’s just down right miserable, disgusting, and all around aweful.
