Done Deal! Oklahoma Finally has a Pro Team!

What was a very sad day for Seattle Residents, or more directly, Seattle Supersonic fans, was a very long overdue, and awesome day to be an Oklahoman. The state of Oklahoma has never had a professional sports team, and its always been a dream of mine to have a home team in professional sports to root for, and today, I do. Even more lucky for me is that it just happened to be my favorate NBA Franchise, and although its sad to see them go, I won’t have to worry about any loyalty issues with my old team becoming my home team. I think in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Oklahomans really made a play towards getting a pro sports team by supporting the Hornets better than they probably have ever been supported before in New Orleans or even Charlotte.

The Sonics organization reached an agreement with the city of Seattle to effectively buy themselves out of their Key Arena contract to move the team to Oklahoma City this season. The organization will retain the rights to the name and all logos and property of the Sonics until Seattle gains a new NBA Franchise, thats “if” they get another franchise.

So what that means is the Oklahoma City franchise will have an all new name, colors, and uniforms. I for one just hope they get really nuts with it and come up with an awesome name and kickass Jerseys. I’ll get my Durant Jersey order in as soon as I see them :p

I’m so freakin’ excited, finally, Oklahoma has an NBA Team! They are also talking about getting some preseason games in at the BOK Center in Tulsa, so that’d give me a chance to see them live and in my hometown. I still can’t believe it, but I’ll definately be getting more into basketball than I have been in the past.

The press conference announcing all the details is below.

  1. Good blogs about Basketball Jerseys are not that easy to find believe me. It is quite amazing to see the diversity of opinions on that subject. I congratulate you on the work you have done on your blog so far because it is not always easy to maintain and update a blog. Thx for the information!
