Circuit City Sucks, why do people shop there?
So when is the last time you shopped and Circuit City, and what the hell were you thinking? First of all, let me say this, my decision to write this was based solely on the experience and observations I made shopping there the other day. I was looking for a very specific, cheap, and slightly older video game, and I tried the major other spots in the area, Toys R Us, Gamestop, Best Buy, and finally before giving up, I decided to go ahead and stop at Circuit City because it was right there too, and I figured why not. That decision directly lead to me making this post, and if you want to find out more, for instance where they the one store that had this item? Read on inside.
So the first thing I noticed walking into the store was just how awkwardly and stupid this store was layout out. The fixtures all looked terribly old with like 80’s looking mall carpet and rubber flooring. Its kind of hard to describe but I think you can imagine the hideousnous of what I’m talking about compared to the likes of rival Best Buy. When I finally found the video game section it was awkwardly placed in the middle of the store, but completely hidden by a major wall separating the other departments from it, and it was on the backside of like camera’s or something.
Anyway, so I go to find this particular item, and disappointment again. I can’t explain why, maybe it was because this was my last stop, and I didn’t want to give up, but I kept poking around and looking through the games to see if I could find it somewhere maybe in the bargain area or mixed in somewhere else, when all the sudden there it was. Score. So all excited that I found the game, I took it up front, where I would have to confront a whole new wave of problems.
The cash registers, um, where the hell are they? Is Circuit City the only place on the planet that doesn’t want to ring people out? Or are they just trying to put more of a focus on people returning things? Because the only thing they had there was customer service, no lanes, no other places to check out. Ridiculous. So I go to customer service, 2 people in line. Okay fine, shouldn’t be too long right? Wrong. The first people up there were applying for a freakin’ credit card and I had to sit and wait through that whole big long spiel blah blah blah, and 8 minutes later she finally pushes them aside to take care of the other guy. This guy is returning a freakin’ printer and tons of cables and ink and stuff. Never mind me, standing there with a $20 game, holding $25 in cash right in front of the lady. Now a good cashier would have slid the one item customer in there and gotten them gone right? No, lets take care of the guy losing us money first. Okay fine, he was there first, I get it. But thats not the end of it, after that all gets taken care of, another 5 or so minutes, she goes back to the credit card people asking them more questions and blah blah blah, are you freakin’ serious! I had half a mind to either throw the money on the counter and walk out, or just walk out altogether game and all. Still standing there like a dolt, I wait another 5 minutes and wait for them to be declined! Awesome! My turn! My turn! I only had to wait 20 minutes! My transaction took all of 20 seconds, and informed the clerk perhaps they needed to put some recliners in the line if people were gonna have to wait as long as I did, and I got the hell out of there.
So in conclusion, even though Circuit City may have what you are looking for, you shouldn’t know that, because you should never even set foot in there, they clearly aren’t very concerned about making money, and definitely have no strategy to ring customers up and get them out of the store quickly. It was like having teeth pulled and I highly discourage anyone else from shopping there.

I’m sorry that you had such a frustrating experience at Circuit City. I do some work with them, and I know they are working to improve customer service. Try contacting them at consumer_affairs@circuitcity.com to share your feedback. You should get a response pretty quickly.
You’d think they’d have figured it out by now. I worked at Best Buy for 4 years, and I know how much of a struggle/focus it is there, and Circuit City was just horrid in comparison.
First step is to at least get some registers in there, sheesh.
