3G iPhone: Twice as Fast, Half the Price
On July 11th, 2008, Steve Jobs and our friends at Apple and AT&T will be dropping the new 3G Apple iPhone. The new version is set to be twice as fast, double the storage capacity, and be half the price. To put it simply, its the phone we should have got the first time, and you have to feel sorry for early adopters who dropped $499-$599 on the initial versions released last year. I personally am huge into gadgets, and this is right up my alley, but even I couldn’t justify the price tag for the packages offered. This was especially true when considering it wasn’t even 3G. So with the basics out of the way, lets see what all the brand new Apple iPhone has to offer.
The Big 3 Return in the 2nd generation iPhone, internet, iPod, and phone service. The iPod feature has been bulked up to 8GB for the $199 model, and 16GB for the $299 model. The internet features will now be running on the 3G network, which will make iPhone twice as fast. New to both models this year will be the Maps feature with GPS, a nice addition indeed. An App Store has been added to download innovative applications for iPhone, and Finally you have the addition of Microsoft Exchange, Get push email, calendar, and contacts with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
So basically, as I stated in the opening paragraph, its the iPhone we should have gotten last year, especially for all those poor souls who dropped a pretty penny on them. Aside from the outrageous pricepoints, the only other thing keep me away from iPhone was the small storage space, and lack of 3G. This years version is taking care of all of these issues, and more than likely iPhone will be my next phone, of course it will have to wait awhile, this thread, is the reason why.
So how did they add all these things and cut the price so low? I mean aside from all the scratch they made off the initial batch of course. AT&T and Apple have reworked their agreement which will keep AT&T the exclusive U.S. distributor for another four years. One significant change with the 3G version, AT&T said Apple will no longer receive a portion of monthly service revenue. Instead, AT&T will fork out a substantial subsidy to help keep the price low.
You can get yours on July 11th, 2008. Oh, and it comes in white now too. hehe.

I would buy one in a second if it was offered from someone other than AT&T. Seriously, their coverage sucks around here. I can’t wait till Verizon picks up the phone. If they do, I am in.

From everything I’ve read, the new agreement is set to last another 4 years, so I wouldn’t get your hopes up on that anytime soon.
