Thats right, three new “Super Earths” have been found a stones throw away, just 42 Light Years to be exact, err, to be estimated. This is good news for the human race so we can focus on finishing off destroying our own planet, while technology advances far enough for us to find a way to get to these new beauties who are waiting patiently for our ultimate destruction of them. After all, we are just pests to our own planet, so why not finish destroying it and move on to the next?  But Seriously…

But seriously, it really does become more and more clear, to me at least, that we can’t be the only “intelligent” life in the Universe. Surely other planets, such as these newly discovered “Super Earths,” are not only out there, but also have life similar to our own. Although I highly doubt we’ll see our own technology advance fast enough to find out in our lifetime, surely it’ll happen eventually, and of course you never know if someone is on their way here right now. Below is some detailed information about the new discovery.

“We have made very precise measurements of the velocity of the star HD 40307 over the last five years, which clearly reveal the presence of three planets,” said team member Michel Mayor of the Geneva Observatory in Switzerland.

The smallest of the trio weighs in at 4.2 Earth masses and orbits HD 40307 every 4.3 Earth days, while the largest, with a mass 9.4 times that of Earth, has a 20.4-day orbit. The middleweight is 6.7 Earth masses and has a 9.6-day trek around the star.

The universe and space exploration has always fascinated me, so I found this particular story pretty interesting and thought I’d share. Cool stuff indeed.
