1 Vs. Every other Sonics Fan on the Planet

Awe! When you see a cute little girl like that its hard to root against her, but I’m going to have to. I’ve been a huge sports fan my whole life. The NBA is something I’ve “merely” followed at a distance, and watched only a handfull of games each year. I’m a Seattle Supersonics fan, and of course the Sonics don’t get National TV coverage very often either, which is another reason I don’t watch the NBA that much. But to my credit I do follow the box scores and news related to the team throughout the season, not as in depth as I do with my Mets and Broncos, but I still do. Being born and raised in Oklahoma, I’ve never had a home team to root for, professionally. In my opinion, Oklahoma is way overdue for a professional sports team, and I think we proved that when the Hornets played in OKC before heading back home. So as the new ownership and the city of Seattle fight it out in court whether the Sonics can move to OKC starting next year, I am 1 Sonics fan Vs all the rest in terms of what I’m rooting for.

Now don’t get me wrong. I feel for my fellow Sonics fans who are diehard and have supported the team, but lets face it, fan support for this team has sucked and not just since the new ownership took over. The team hasn’t been good for about a decade, and until they tried to move them, it just seemed like no one in Seattle even cared about the team anymore. For those diehards, I applaud you, and I would be doing the same thing if they were trying to move a beloved team from its home city.

That said, what better situation for me, an Oklahoma Resident, than having my favorate NBA team move to my home state? It’ll be awesome, I can watch more games, read what will be TONS of local coverage in the newspapers, and even get to go to a game or two when I have the means. The team has bright young starts, and are going to add another young player to the mix in about a week from now in the NBA Draft, where they have the 4th pick. It couldn’t be a better situation for me as a fan.

So I’m rooting for the court to OK the move, and bring my favorate team to my home state. I’ll give an early welcome to the OC Sonics! I know Oklahoma City must be included in the name per contract, and I imagine they’ll move forward with a name change as well, which I would also support. I love the Sonics, but hey, thats a name for Seattle, and they’ll need a new name, colors, uniforms for Oklahoma, and I personally can’t wait, and am crossing my fingers.

So right or wrong, I’m crossing my fingers for the move to happen, going against the wishes of every other Sonics fan on the planet.
